half from Guadalajara City and 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta.
Mascota is located west the state
of Jalisco, strategically located between Guadalajara (at 191 km), capital of
the state, and Puerto Vallarta (at 78 km), one of the most famous tourist
destinations in the state. Other near tourist destinations, although in the
state of Nayarit, are Nuevo Vallarta (at 91 km) and Tepic (at 222 km).
The natural resources, forests, lagoons and mountains that surround Mascota are
perfect areas for family picnic days. In places like Corrinchis Dam,
Juanacatlan Lagoon and El Malpais, locals and tourists practice hiking,
strolling, horseback riding, kayaking or boat tours; rappelling, rock climbing

There are two museums in Mascota. The anthropology museum. Small with a few exhibits. And the Raul Museum. This latter one is more interesting showing some old furnishings from the past.
