When I was a kid I loved sitting in these chairs in the country.

Chatham is home to the Chatham Lighthouse, which was established by President Thomas Jefferson in 1808 to protect the ships circling the Cape. Originally consisting of two lights, the pair were moved back and rebuilt in 1877. The second was moved to Eastham to become the Nauset Light in 1923 after the bulb burned out, after both were upgraded to rotating lights. Today, the keeper's house is home to a Coast Guard station which tends the light.
The keeper has to tun the light on at night. And change the bulbs when they burn out.
The keeper is a solitary sole. Talks to himself at nights.

The keeper's grandfather was good friends of the Captain. The old captain was alerted by his First Mate that there was a pirate ship coming towards his boat. He asked a sailor to get him his red shirt.
The captain was asked, Why a red shirt?
The Captain repled, So if I bleed, you guys donít notice and arenít discouraged. They fight off the pirates and win.
The very next day, the Captain is alerted that 50 pirate ships are coming towards their boat. He yells, Get me my brown pants!

Consider a visit to the Atwood House for great Catham history. The collection of the Chatham Historical Society includes approximately 3000 objects (paintings, decorative arts, maritime artifacts, the captain's brown pants)--mainly American-made and mostly Chatham related.
In addition, the archives contain about 2500 photographs including one of the keeper sleeping, over 1600 books none of which are on the NY Times best-sellers list, and several thousand documents relating to the history of Chatham.
